Stand E36, Global Offshore Wind, Excel London

Van Oord will christen its offshore installation vessel, Boreas, on the 18th of June at 11:00 AM (CEST) in the Netherlands. The company will also celebrate throughout the day at booth E36 during the Global Offshore Wind exhibition in London, where visitors can make a champagne toast, enjoy a virtual tour onboard, see a Boreas scale model, and learn more about the 175-metre vessel, the largest of its kind. It measures 175 metres in length and has a 155-metre-high boom, which can lift more than 3,000 tonnes. Four giant legs, each measuring 126 metres, allow the vessel to be jacked up and work in waters up to 70 metres deep. Therefore, it will be able to install up to 20 MW offshore wind turbines at sea.

With its brand-new vessel, Van Oord aims not only to prepare for the increasing scale of the offshore wind industry but also to play an important role in the energy transition. Boreas is the first offshore installation vessel powered by methanol, allowing for a reduction of over 78% in its carbon footprint. It also includes Selective Catalytic Reduction, an innovative emissions control technology, aiming to reduce NOx emissions to the bare minimum. A 6,000 kWh battery pack handles peak loads and regenerates energy, reducing both fuel consumption and emissions.
