Aibel celebrates Dogger Bank C milestone
Rope-cutting ceremony held to mark sail-away of third and final offshore wind converter platform

Engineering company Aibel held a ceremony to mark the imminent sail-away of its third and final offshore wind converter platform for the Dogger Bank C project.

Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment Andreas Bjelland Eriksen performed a rope-cutting ceremony at Aibel’s yard in Haugesund to mark the milestone.

The celebration (pictured) was attended by representatives from the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm project along with Aibel and Hitachi Energy.

The wind farm is a joint venture partnership between SSE Renewables (40%), Equinor (40%) and Vargronn (20%).

The world’s first unmanned HVDC substation for offshore wind was installed at Dogger Bank in 2023.

The Dogger Bank wind farm (A, B and C) will power 6 million UK homes with its three phases of 1.2GW each – all with similar design HVDC offshore substations.

SSE Renewables is leading on the development and construction of the wind farm and Equinor will operate the project on completion and during its expected operational life of around 35 years.
