White Cross floater consultation goes live
Developer JV has submitted further environmental information for 100MW Celtic Sea project

North Devon Council has launched a consultation on additional information submitted by Flotation Energy and Cobra for the 100MW White Cross floating wind farm in the Celtic Sea.

The additional information includes extra bat survey data, a cable burial risk assessment, an environmental management and monitoring plan, additional details on flood risk and drainage and information on coastal erosion.

The 30-day consultation is the third to be held by NDC since an onshore planning application was submitted in August 2023.

It is being undertaken in parallel with a similar consultation run by the Marine Management Organisation, which must grant permission for offshore elements of the scheme.

The consultation closes on 7 February ahead of a final permit decision.

An NDC spokesperson said: “North Devon Council has received additional information in support of the planning application for the White Cross offshore wind farm and has commenced a further round of public consultation on the application.

“The council hopes to be in a position to determine the application in spring 2025.”

A spokesperson for the developers added: "With a nominal capacity of 100MW, once operational the White Cross wind farm will provide enough energy to power over 135,000 households. White Cross is also an essential test and demonstration project that will enable future floating offshore wind developments in the Celtic Sea.

"We remain committed to the White Cross project, and the project team have been continuing to engage with the appropriate statutory consultees. We submitted further information to North Devon Council and the Marine Management Organisation before Christmas, as requested, and this is now subject of another period of public consultation.”
