European firms launch Searénité noise consortium
Project targets offshore wind noise mitigation technology development

Chantiers de l’Atlantique, EDF power solutions, Heerema Marine Contractors, Menck, RTE, Sealence and Smulders have formed the Searénité consortium to develop a noise mitigation system for offshore wind operations.

The partners said the project will adapt Sealence’s SubSea Quieter® technology to reduce underwater noise during installation of floating wind turbines and offshore substations.

Sealence added that the system uses air-inflatable membrane panels deployed around offshore foundations to act as an acoustic shield and limit noise impacts.

The consortium brings together companies with expertise spanning offshore substations, environmental integration, installation, acoustic modelling and technology design.

Sealence will lead the project and is responsible for designing, producing and demonstrating an adapted version of SubSea Quieter®.

Year one will focus on design, acoustic modelling and hydrodynamic analysis, with tests planned to validate performance down to 300m water depth.

Prototype production and testing are scheduled for 2028 at the Port of Saint-Nazaire, followed by further refinement and a potential full-scale demonstration during offshore substation installation.

The Searénité project has secured €7.1m in funding from the French State under the France 2030 programme operated by ADEME.
